چکیده

Sarcoidosis is a chronic multisystem disease of unknown cause that seldom occurs in children; however cases of pediatric sarcoidosis have been reported in India(l). There has been considerable progress in the understanding of this disease since Kendig(2) published an article in 1962. Most commonly the lungs, lymph nodes, skin, liver and spleen are involved, but sarcoid granulomata have been found in nearly every tissue and organ in the body. Such unusual locations as the pulmonary veins and the superior vena cava were reported by Powell(3) and nerve bundle by Ozer et a/.(4). Asymptomatic granulomatous infiltration of the striated muscle as part of the generalized sarcoid disease was first described by Myers et al.(5). Muscle pain and tenderness may occur in the early stages of sarcoidosis(6) while palpable muscle nodules may present with pain, stiffness or muscle cramps(7). To our knowledge, 79 cases of sarcoid myopathy have been published of which 44% had an isolated

Bethlem myopathy in a Taiwanese family.

We report three cases of Bethlem myopathy from three consecutive generations of a Taiwanese family, including one woman aged 70, one man aged 40, and a boy aged 8. The clinical features of the patients included autosomal dominant inheritance, childhood or adolescent onset, mainly proximal and extensor involvement, early diffuse joint contractures, and absence of cardiac involvement. These featu...

Bethlem myopathy: a slowly progressive congenital muscular dystrophy with contractures.

Bethlem myopathy is an early-onset benign autosomal dominant myopathy with contractures caused by mutations in collagen type VI genes. It has been reported that onset occurs in early childhood. We investigated the natural course of Bethlem myopathy in five previously published kindreds and two novel pedigrees, with particular attention to the mode of onset in 23 children and the progression of ...

Collagen VI related muscle disorders.

Mutations in the genes encoding collagen VI (COL6A1, COL6A2, and COL6A3) cause Bethlem myopathy (BM) and Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy (UCMD), two conditions which were previously believed to be completely separate entities. BM is a relatively mild dominantly inherited disorder characterised by proximal weakness and distal joint contractures. UCMD was originally described as an autosoma...

Pancuronium bromide induced joint contractures in the newborn.

We report three infants paralysed with pancuronium bromide as an adjunct to mechanical ventilation, who developed multiple joint contractures. In two term infants, gentamicin and phenobarbitone given together with pancuronium may have potentiated its effect, and in one preterm infant contractures, which became more severe after paralysis, were present at birth.

Toll-like receptor 2 polymorphism in juvenile dermatomyositis

Background Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is characterised by chronic inflammation in skeletal muscle, skin, and other target organs. Prognosis has improved in the past 10-20 years, but it is still a disease with high morbidity and considerable sequelae such as muscle weakness, joint contractures, calcinosis and lipodystrophy. There is increasing evidence that single nucleotide polymorphisms (S...
